I saw Kevin's reply and your reply, and I agree, but...

assuming the pdf was properly created:

when you need to type in any information, you need to press the space
bar on the appropriate line where JAWS announces "edit" or the element
needing attention.

although I haven't experienced this, I believe you'd have to also press
the space bar on combo boxes or any other modifiable element to allow
the elements to become active.

for combo boxes, you might have to open the combo box by pressing the
alt+down arrow, making your choice with the vertical arrow keys, and
pressing alt+up arrow to close the combo box before continuing.

for check boxes, space bar once to activate and again to change it's
state to checked or unchecked.

for radio combo boxes, it's just a matter of activating the element and
using the vertical arrow keys to make your choice. for example,
switching from male to female.

you can also try pressing the tab key to move to the next element
instead of continuously turning forms mode on and off, but you may
experience distortion when determining what to type in next.

using JAWS, you can either press the escape key or the PCCursor key to
turn forms mode off at any time. NVDA uses the escape key to turn forms
mode off.,

Subject: [Njtechdiv] Filling out PDF forms

Yesterday, I received a form I needed to fill out by email. It was in
PDF format, and I was unable to edit it, so I saved it as TXT and put in
the required data.

But is there a way to fill out forms without converting the format? In
the PDF form, every time I tried to put in my name, which starts with T,
Jaws bounced over to a table. Also, Save was disabled on the file menu.

Thanks for any hints as to how to handle this, next time it comes up.

Tracy
