Thanks Mario for the thorough instructions. My setting was 5 seconds, and I
upped it to 15, which should work a lot better.

Tracy, when the message is spoken, you have 7 seconds to click it before it
goes away. it might have disappeared before you had time to react to it. you
can however, increase the duration:

press the windows key and start typing control panel. as soon as you hear
JAWS say control panel, press the enter key. then type e for the ease of
access center link and press enter. next, press the tab key to and enter on
the Use the computer without a display Link, then tab to How long should
Windows notification dialog boxes stay open? Combo box.
here, use the arrow up/down keys to choose the desired seconds. 7 is the
default. I have mine set to 15 seconds. it is recommended not to exceed 30.
after adjusting the duration, tab to and enter on the OK button, and then
press alt+f4. now when the message is spoken again, you should have enough
time to react to it.

now to handle what the message stated. you can run the trouble shooter from
the control panel and follow it's steps, and it might help, but instead you
can try to run an error check and Automatically fix file system errors on
the device, assuming this is a thumb drive or an external hard disk.
