you can use an online service to convert the m4a to an mp3 by going to 
convertfiles.com. upload the file, choose to convert to the mp3 format, 
and begin the conversion process. I encourage you to read thru the 
questions and answers that are already displaied to get an idea on what 
to do. good luck.

It's a file my friend recorded with her phone, so it's not protected.
It's 12,542 KB.  Does that matter?

how big is the file, is it less or greater than 250 mb (or 256,000 kb)?
do you know if the m4a file is DRM protected?

A friend emailed me a song in M4A format.  I can't play it in Windows Meida
Player.  It would play in iTunes, which I have, but I don't know how to get
it into the iTunes library, or how to point iTunes to where I saved the
file.

Does anyone know how I can play this file, or, better yet, convert it to
MP3?
