• press the windows key, start typing the word panel and press the enter 
key as soon as you hear the words control panel.
• press the letter r until you hear region and press the enter key.
• press shift with the tab key once and right arrow to the 
administrative tab.
• press the tab key twice to something that mentions "Language for 
non-Unicode programs Change system locale... Change Button" and press 
the spacebar.
• now use the down or up arrow cursor keys to find English United 
States. hint, you can press the letter e to jump to the regions that 
start with e.
• press the tab key to the OK button and press the spacebar.
• again, press the tab key to the OK button and press the spacebar.

that's it! you should try notepad to verify that you now don't get 
hieroglyphics anymore. if you still get hieroglyphics try restarting the 
computer and then notepad again.

do let us know if it's okay now or you are still having that problem.
