You might consider the HumanWare Mantis Q40. In the US, it's distributed by APH; elsewhere in the world, HumanWare distributes it. It has a basic editor for writing text (a basic note-taker, essentially), a book reader to download books in Braille, a basic calculator, a clock, and a file manager. It has 16 GB of internal storage, so you can even use it as a flash drive for storing generic data if you needed to. It has an SD card slot and a USB port as well. It supports bluetooth and USB for connecting to external devices. I have one at work, though I haven't been able to use it because we're working remotely. I believe it's around $2500, which is a pretty good value.
It has a QWERTY keyboard, which means you can type as you would on a laptop. For me, at least, this is a lot faster and much less convoluted than BrailleIn. Anyway, there's more info on APH's website, <https://www.aph.org/product/mantis-q40/> and there's a manual here. <https://nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/aph/app/uploads/2020/06/16200707/Mantis-User-Guide-V2.pdf>

Hopefully I will be able to do some comparison shopping and test driving during the national convention in New Orleans this upcoming summer, assuming that it will be in person at at a reduced or full compacity. With that said, for those of you who are on this list and have a Braille display, I would like to hear your recommendations for a first time refreshable display user. I have already received one from NFB of Massachusetts president and national board member Amy Ruell to look at the 5th generation Focus Braille displays.
