Got it done.  It took a little poking around in Settings, but I found it.

However, at the end it wants me to enter the new password in Settings, and it won’t show me the on-screen keyboard.  I can flick to it, but flicking letter by letter through the whole keyboard is awful.  Guess I’ll have to contact Apple Disability some time.

The answer was:

Dec 21, 2020 — Go to your Apple ID account page and click Forgot Apple ID or password. When you're asked to enter your Apple ID, click "Look it up." Enter

your first name, last name, and email address. If you enter the wrong email address, you can try again with a different one.

 

Now I have to figure out how to get to the Apple ID account, but perhaps it will be obvious when I get into settings or something.

I honestly would have never thought of using google.  Out of curiosity, can you share what the answer was?

Duh, I also forgot Google can help me.  I Googled “forgot Apple ID”, and Poof, there was an answer.  I knew I wasn’t the only person who ever forgot.
