You could try connecting the phone to a Windows computer with iTunes and restoring it or connected to a Mac computer if you have one. If that does not work, you could try signing into icloud.com with the Apple ID that that phone was using and reset it.

Subject: [NJTechDiv] What to do with iPhone

Hello,
While cleaning our camper this morning, we found an iPhone wedged in one of the recliners. All we could gather about it is it’s most likely either an iPhone 5 or 5S because it is not big enough to be a 6, has a headphone jack, and is only 3G instead of LTE. My sister thinks maybe it is hers, but my brother in law tried to unlock it with both his code and her code, but it doesn’t seem to be working. (My sister sometimes gives her old phones he kids to play with, so this is why we think it may be hers). My brother in law took the phone with him to see if it is indeed hers, but if it is not, what should we do? Obviously if it’s hers, no action is needed, but we want to make sure we are following the correct poocedure if it ends up not being hers.I do realize that the 5S is no longer supported, but if it’s a lost iPhone, I want to make sure it doesn’t later become a stolen iPhone.
