Hi, as far as I'm aware, initially you need to perform this gesture; once set up, you can set up backtap. Initially, I went to an Apple store several years ago in 2009 to set up my first iPhone, and the staff there were aware of VoiceOver and its various gestures, so that might be an option initially.

However, I am unable to do the home gesture, so a friend and I experimented with her XR and we discovered that if you set up a back tap shortcut for home and app switcher, even if Face ID is set up, you can still unlock your phone without having to swipe up; this also works when you need to get to the home screen or app switcher and I can still use the old method for Conthol Center and Notifications, so once the phone is set up, I’m good. However, it appears as though you must swipe up to begin setup. Is there any way to bypass this? I know if you accidentally miss the langua prompt, you can simply double tap on the button for your preferred language, so I was curious whether the swipe up to begin setup phompt had something similar. I’ve listened to audio demos, YouTube videos, and even tried it on a friend’s phone, but I cannot perform the gesture no matter what.
