Tracy, could you enlighten us on how to do this for those of us who
might want to buy a new computer with Windows 11?

Apparently, Microsoft has created a default mode in Windows 11 for some
computers so that you can only install Microsoft products. You have to
turn off S mode before you can install Jaws, NVDA, or Zoomtest. Gee
thanks Microsoft.

If you call the Microsoft Disability Answer desk, they can hopefully
help you switch it from Windows S mode to a full operating mode. Windows
S is secured so that it can only run Microsoft Store software, Magnifier
and other Microsoft accessibility options. Many of the bottom end
computers operate in Windows S.

I bought a tiny HP Stream laptop running Windows 11, which I plan/hope
to give to someone for Xmas. The problem is that I can’t install
anything on it that doesn’t come from the Microsoft store, like NVDA. I
have enabled Developer Mode in Settings and restarted the machine, but
it still acts as if it is not in developer mode? Can anyone suggest a
cause, like maybe some piece of pre-installed junk software that needs
to be removed? Thanks.
