As I remember, this company adapted the talking laundry module to
particular models of GE washer/dryer units, which I believe they still
sell at least 3 models and a box. You might want to check out:

When we moved into our house in 2017, I heard about a company called
First Build which manufactured boxes which can be hooked to your washer
and dryer and read the avaiable settings.  I don’t know if these boxes
are still available.

Hi Tracy I agree with you the lower and machines were much more
accessible and had less to worry about as far as what was on the screens.
I just hope this machine that I purchased less for me. I did get an
extended maintenance for five years, and hopefully this will help.
Take care.

I agree with Peggy that the best thing is to go to stores and look
for yourself, if you can.  There has been some discussion of
accessible washers on the Electronics-talk listserve, but no one has
really recommended anything specific.
When I needed a new washer/dryer a few years ago, we went and looked
at PC Richards.  The low-end machines were much more accessible than
the high-end, because the high-end machines had all kinds of
inaccessible menus.  But the GE I got has good old-fashioned dials
and buttons.  I got my neighbor to help me put some braille labels
and bump dots on it, and it’s just fine.  I expect that, these days,
I could use AIRA for that too, if I couldn’t catch someone to help me
in person.
Also, I’ve seen an ad for a business on Etsy that will create a
braille overlay for you that you can put on a machine.  I’m sure they
charge for it, but I don’t know how much.
HTH.

Hi All,
My Accessible Washer of 17 years has stopped working.  This was an
Accessible Washer with the control panel that had tactual buttons,
braille, and large print.  This machine was made by GE.  I had also
test marketed it.  GE does not make it anymore.
Does anyone know of an Accessible Washer with tactual buttons and
braille on control panel?  Or a Washer that talks?  Also I will need
a Gas Dryer that is Accessible too.  Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Johanna Baccan
