(msg from Caroline Benavidez)

Hello,

We all understand how important it is for our kids to learn to read
and write Braille. So, I'm asking for your help.

In formal reading programs, there is an important component called
"guided reading". Small groups of students at the same reading level
read with a teacher (or other trained adult) and receive feedback and
instruction.

Because of a schoolwide guided reading program at Zia Elementary,
braille-reading instructional assistants are leaving the
visually-impaired classrooms and going to read with the
regular-education students. This leaves our visually-impaired students
with not enough support to do guided reading.

I'm asking for Braille-reading volunteers from the community to help
us out. If you have about 30 minutes a morning to spare, we could use
you to fill in this gap. We will provide training, and you'll be
helping our Braille-learners become good readers.

If you'd like to volunteer or would like more information, Please
contact me at my home email address (crounds1 at msn.com) or my home
number 505-839-0909. Please let others know about this opportunity. We
need to get started as soon as possible, so please contact me by
October 1.
