Hi all,

Thank you for sending in ideas. Monica, I spoke with Kelly yesterday in fact about the seminar and she is definitely interested. I also like the idea of having a history/philosophy mpannel for Q&A. I will talk to Christine for the two room idea. I am thinking in the morning would be a good idea to have us as the NMABS board introduce everyone to the student division then ask Christine to give an update on what she knows from each of the chapters around the state instead of having all the presidents give their own speeches and that would give a good idea of the state level and how we work with them as much as we can. I’d also like to request that Darian come out for the seminar if you can, please? I’d like to have you their to help and also to give a National student update, possibly? Let me know. I love the idea of having Cheryl coming and helping with history of NMABS.

There is a $5 cost for the registration for new members to become members which will pay for membership through the 2012 convention. Current members don’t have to pay unless they would like to contribute, I am using this also as a fund-raising opportunity as well.

If there is anything else, please let me know.

Thanks,

Tara

Hi all,

As far As far as I know, Pizza Hut is still offering any size of pizza for $10. Also, having 2 rooms sounds like a very good plan. I agree that we should keep the breaks during this seminar to a minimum.

Thanks and take care,

-Michael

Hey Tara,

How about two rooms. More than that and you might have people just wandering the halls and not really involved on one particular seminar. I can't think of the particular pizza place right now, but there is one doing any pizza for ten dollars. That will help keep expenses low and more choices for students. As far as having breaks, you want to be careful doing that. Any break over five minutes and we might lose interest and again have wanderers.

Perhaps someone from the commission tech services can come and give a talk about new technology, along with some samples that students can see during the break and/or at a later point in the seminar.

Presidents from the different areas: Alamogordo, Los Cruces, Albuquerque East Side, Albuquerque West Side and others can possibly give updates on what their specific divisions are doing this year. This will also show students that we as NMABS are advocating for the entire state, not just Albuquerque.

As for activities, how about talking about our upcoming goalball team and what we need to do to continue moving forward with that project. Many are interested but we still have a lot to do to make it happen.

When to have the registration forms returned by-I would think a week (November 5) would be reasonable. Is there a charge for registration?

They can send it back to me if you would like me to be in charge of that.

I am willing to be the contact for this event.

Can Christine come and explain the different job positions for each board/officer position? If so, that would be fabulous.

Perhabs we can have Cheryl come and talk about the history of NMABS. Since she is the one that signed our original documentation into the National Federation of the Blind. Speaking of history, why not have Art, Christine or Tonia talk about the history of the NFB? Many of us don't know how it started originally. We should know the base of what we have our division on.

Anyway, those are just a few thoughts I had for contributing to the seminar.

Monica

Hi all,

First, I’d like to apologize for not sending the previous month’s minutes, they will be sent in a few minutes. I wanted to give everyone an update on our progress for the seminar taking place next month.

The date for the seminar is Saturday November 13, 2010 from 9:p00-4:30

It will be held at the NMSBVI Pre-school here in Albuquerque.

We will be holding registration from 8:00-9:00 that morning.

We are going to order pizza from somewhere, we need to decide where since that would be the easiest and we can also have soda and water in coolers, Christine has agreed to let us borrow her ice chest if we need it.

Things we still need to finalize by October 17, 2010:

1. Activities at the seminar

2. Where to order the pizza from and what drinks to purchase

3. Which date we want the registration forms returned and money collected

4. Who to contact with the information

5. Guest speakers

6. Specific discussions

7. Breakout sessions for different groups?

8. Partents involvement?

9. Child care?

10. How many rooms we will need?

Please let me know if you are able to help with any of the above. I know some of us in the group have a costco account plus we could purchase things directly out of the NMABS account now that we have our debit card.

Any questions, please reply and let me know.

Thank you, Amanda, Michael, and Josh so far. You are all doing a wonderful job.

Thanks,

Tara
