NFB NOBBL Women's Group

Meeting Notes

Monday, December 9, 2024

Thank you to all of the women who came from all over the country to
participate in this meeting. As usual, your input is what made the meeting
so good. We did not record this meeting because it was a conversation among
the participants, however, I took some notes. Check them out and let me
know if I missed anything. Also, do not forget to give Brittany Adams a
call/email if you are interested in helping her out on her research
concerning blind/low vision women and cosmetics. The ideas for next year's
topics were great, and I am looking forward to our 2025 meetings.

Sincerely. Carol King-Ries

Re-cap of our year and discussion around what we will need in 2025

All present shared that they liked the speakers and topics we chose for
2024. Many shared what their favorite meeting was, and I think that every
session was mentioned several times. Therefore, every meeting met the needs
of someone.

Brainstorming possible Topics for 2025:

How to help employers understand the capabilities of blind/low vision people

Understanding the ADA: Knowing your rights, when to disclose your
disability, and what reasonable accommodation means

Having open discussions about topics that concern us as women

Traveling independently

Orientation and Mobility

The use of aps and Smart glasses for navigation

FFB research/new African American research director

A discussion of navigating vision loss: Insight from the experienced to the
inexperienced

More discussions about Lead Her Ship: Leading as a woman in male dominated
environments

We have some great topics to explore, and if you thought of some other
topics, let us know and we will add them to the list. Now, we need your
input on getting speakers for the topics that require them. Please share
any people you think may bring insight to the topic. Also, if you are
interested in facilitating one of these meetings, let me know. Doing so
will improve your leadership and communication skills.
