Hello Reanne,

I would be greatful for any tips you can pass along to me. Are you totally
blind, and if so, how long did it take for you to memorize the voices of
your students. I did some tutoring in the past 2 semesters with at risk
first and second graders. We only met with the children a half hour for
twice a week. Even at the end of the year, I am not certain I would know
some of the voices of the kids. Keep in mind that we had different students
each semester, and we did a total of fifteen hours each semester with them.
Or, that was the plan. There was some cancellations and the like. Also, I
guess another concern for me as a teacher who is blind is disipline even
though my sighted classmates worry about that too, I am sure. My plan is to
develop a list of rules and procedures with mainly procedures. I will also
develop some consequences for students. Maybe, I'll have some pre-completed
notes with a warning to behavior that I could hand to the child or put on
the board. I would prefer to hand it to or place it on the child's desk
because I have watched enough kids that I know I will more be able to
recognize inappropriate behavior if I am up and moving around. This also
ensures I don't get the wrong kid. Eventually, the consequences would have
the student and I talk in the hall with the child making the decision to
enter the class, and at worst, the child would go to the principal. Any
tips on this or anyother tip you can think of, I would greatly appreciate.
One more thing, are you a Braille reader. If so, did you get material in
Braille for your student teaching? Or, did you have your reader read the
lesson to you so you could have it. I have my reader type up printed
information for me now, and so I would probably have her do that. Thanks
forr all of the help, and sorry to be so gabby. Anita
