[nobe-l] question about teaching writing

You could also use the tools I mentioned before to have a friend or family member show you how the letters are formed. You would be able to feel them that way. 

How many hours of tutoring do you anticipate working with this student? You may need to weigh the cost of finding new equipment and time spent learning a new skill against the benefits of working with this student. It is certainly a good skill to have. It just depends on how much time you will need to learn it yourself and how quickly you can get going.
