ENIL and CIL-Sofia invite you to a peer support training
The training will take place on 24th-25th September 2016 in Sofia,
Bulgaria. It is organised jointly by the European Network on
Independent Living (ENIL) and the Centre for Independent Living –
Sofia (CIL-Sofia). It will aim to build participants’ skills to
provide peer support as a tool for independent living, and to empower
them to promote peer support in their countries.
Peer support refers to people with common experience supporting each
other on an equal basis. This involves the provision of information
and practical, emotional, social or physical support. Peer support
can be formal or informal, provided by people with or without
training. It can take place in different settings (at home, at the
workplace, at a Centre for independent living, etc.) as well as by
phone or online.
The peer support training will bring together a group of 20 disabled
people who will engage in discussions about the principles of peer
support, the role and responsibilities of peer supporters and the
development of peer support in Europe (see the programme below).
Trainers will be experts on the right to Independent Living from
Bulgaria, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. After the training
participants will have the opportunity to participate in the
international conference “Independent Living and Peer Support – the
Core of UN CRPD”, organised by CIL-Sofia.
The training is for:
• disabled people from Central and Eastern Europe
• with experience in providing peer support formally (within an
organisation) or informally,
• who are willing to engage in promoting peer support in their countries.
Participants will be selected based on the above criteria. The
organisers will aim to ensure diversity in terms of gender, type of
impairment and country. The language of the training is English,
therefore participants must also have a working knowledge of English.
The organisers will cover the costs for travel, accommodation and
subsistence of up to 16 people (including personal assistants, when
needed). However, people who are able to cover their own costs are
welcome to apply. The organisers will be able to assist all
participants with arranging accommodation and accessible transport in
Sofia.
If you are interested in taking part in the training, please fill in
the application form and send it to Dilyana Deneva, ENIL Youth and
Membership Coordinator, at dilyana.deneva at enil.eu
The deadline for applications is 30 June 2016.
