[nobe-l] Blind Doctoral Student Finishing Dissertation - Need Help for the Final Study

I appreciate all of the positive comments and support I've been receiving
about my survey.
To start this project I evaluated the top 150 retail websites in 2015 and
2016 against W3CG 2.0. I used both the Sort Site and WAVE tools to ensure
any variance in the results could be attributed to the evaluation software
and not the website itself. Some retailers have improved, some have gotten
worse, and most have stayed about the same. I selected these tools for the
evaluation because they don't take into account the functional differences
between screen-reading software, operating system, internet program, or user
settings/preferences. It's a blanket approach that could unfortunately not
be used to design a survey for the entire blind and vision impaired
community. I'm not a programmer or website designer, and the survey software
is telling me that the survey is accessible as it can be. This being said, I
don't wish for anyone to have difficulty, so please let me know what
problems you're experiencing and I can pass them along to those who may be
able to remedy the problem. By alerting the programmers of the problems
perhaps future studies can be made more accessible with the variety of
programs and options that exist.

Again, thank you for your kind consideration and participation.

Alex Cohen

Adrijana,

To Dave's point, this does not sound like an accessibility issue as much as
it sounds like an issue either with the version of NVDA that you are
running, the search engine you might be using, or the settings on your
computer. I had no problem reading the survey, all of the questions and
answers, with JAWS 16, Windows 10 and using IE as my search engine.

I agree with David that all too often many of us in the community want to
play the same old record we are all comfortable playing and say something
is not accessible. We, as stakeholders in this game, need to be sure what we
are talking about. now that being said, we still face a world that is not
nearly as accessible as it should be, and that makes it even harder to
blankly say that something is inaccessible when so many things out there are
striving to be these days.

Perhaps you can take Alex up on his offer of contacting him to discuss your
issues and see what suggestions he has to help you work through the glitches
you are experiencing. He is very responsive and able to communicate with
each of us, which I say from personal experience.

Peace and to be continued...

Albert

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. I have no problem with choosing the
options from the combo boxes. The options are readable to me and I could
choose whichever I want, my problem is that I can't read the questions, so I
will not know what I am choosing.
