I live in Maceeonia and one of my students of 14 wrote this for a
presentation, so I am putting this up for discussion and maybe math
teachers and other educators can share their experiences on this
around the world?
As a young person who is at the first crossroads in life when I have
to continue my further education, I asked myself a question. Why is it
not mandatory to study a subject on financial literacy in secondary
education schools? Secondary and even higher education is completed, a
large part of young people and adults do not have that ability to
manage personal finances. Even in the family circle, managing finances
has always been the responsibility of the parent. Managing money,
allocating it rationally and economically is one of the most important
skills we need to practice in order to live a healthy and happy life.
to set a priority and deal consciously and responsibly with the
satisfaction of financial needs. Mathematics is of crucial importance,
because it finds application in many areas of everyday life. But
despite the numbers, much more is needed to achieve that level of
awareness regarding the value of money, saving it, borrowing, saving,
investing, and so on. In terms of knowledge and skills, everyone
should know how to use banking services. To distinguish currency, its
value, where to exchange, buy, sell, at what price and so on.
Deposits, savings, credit and payment, payment, interest and so on.
The fact that only in 21 countries in the world students take a high
school course on personal finance is worrying. Let's try to raise this
thing and start applying it to us and beyond, because managing
personal finances nowadays is a necessary trait for every young
person, Something that directly affects every part of our life and
represents difference between poverty and prosperity.
