I hope to have a small team working with me on a project for the Oregon BELL
Academy for next year. I'd like to do something around Michael Hingson's
story of how he and his guide dog helped each other and everyone else as
they left the World Trade Center on 9-11. Somehow, I want to possibly have
Mike tell the story live, either in person or online. If that doesn't work,
we might use recordings of Mike telling his story. Since this is such a new
project, there are so many unknowns, but we do know that most BELL lessons
run at least 90 minutes.

I'm calling this Project Thunderdog after Mike's book, and I'm open to any
ideas on how my team and I can form a lesson around the story. What might be
good activities for the potential students, and how can we make the story
come to life?

One thing my team learned from our last BELL project was the need to find
things the kids could do while they were listening to the story. We also
learned the value of giving them time to look at props.

Anyone with ideas can e-mail me on this list or privately. I'm open to
anything, since this project is so new. Thanks.
