Hi all, on Thursday October 28th, a couple of blind students in the
New York City area will be getting together for dinner. We want to
make this a once-a month strictly social event, where blind students
in and around NYC who have not had a chance to meet each other, can
network, chill out for a bit, and have some good food.

Of course, anyone is welcome to come along and join us, so feel free
to spread the word.

We would probably meet after 7 pm.

If you are interested, let me know off list, at
AlexanderA.Castillo at gmail.com so we can get a good idea of how many
people will attend, and we can choose a good venue.

If you have any suggestions where you would like to see us get
together, let me know as well.

Thanks for reading,
Alex

Greetings all,
Over the past few years we have had success with the auctioning of baked goods at our convention. This could be anything you choose to make and donate such as: pies, cakes, cup cakes fudge or anything else sweet and sinful. Also, some people have made things with splenda or another artificial sweetener for those who cannot tolerate sugar.
If you can make something, please contact Mindy via Email at: mindyjoy at nyc.rr.com or by phone at: 212-255-6688.
Feel free to pass this on to anyone not on this Email.
Thanks and see you in Buffalo, Carl

Dear ???,
Here is an amazing opportunity for students or recent graduates with
disabilities who are interested in getting their foot in the door
with TV, movie,
and other entertainment careers, both in front of and behind the camera.
Please send the below message and attached "Application" to students or
graduates you believe may be good candidates. I apologize for the VERY short
turnaround, but it is a great opportunity. I'm also attaching the original
memo for your knowledge.
Thank you,
Sara

As a student/recent graduate with disabilities, I would like to share an
opportunity with you?
NBC Universal will host What Can WE Do? D?a de ?Qu? Podemos Hacer, a
Disability Awareness Day of Dialogue on both the West Coast (LA) and
East Coast
(NYC), on Monday, October 25, 2010. This daylong event will bring together
NBC executives for an interactive discussion. A number of NBC Universal
divisions will be present, which may include: NBC Entertainment, Universal
Pictures, Focus Features, Telemundo, mun2, Bravo, Oxygen, Syfy, USA, NBC News,
MSNBC, CNBC, Universal Parks & Resorts, NBC Sports & Olympics, Universal
Studios Home Entertainment.
In addition, NBC Universal has agreed to include at both the East Coast
and West Coast events, 12 college students/recent graduates with disabilities
with high potential to participate in NBCU?s What Can WE Do? The afternoon
session will focus on college students/recent graduates with disabilities.
The goal is to encourage internships for students with disabilities,
fortify outreach, identify employment/accommodation resources and increase
employment in front of and behind the camera. Invited students/recent
graduates
will include those who are ?job ready? and raring to explore careers in
entertainment and/or broadcasting. They are looking for candidates who can
commit to explore internship or employment opportunities in Summer 2011.
Keep in mind this is a full day of activity for the candidates so some
students may have to rearrange their class schedules. Students are responsible
for their own transportation to and from NBC Universal. In addition,
students/recent graduates must be prepared for an in-person
interview, as ?speed
interviewing? will be included. They will provide further information
about date, time and place should you be accepted.
