Alex,
It has been a pleasure to have had you in the leadership of the Affiliate.
A Student Division is no easy task to lead and you have done a superb job as
its President.
Allow me to extend the best wishes of the Affiliate leadership to you as you
pursue the next chapter in your life.  While it is well known that some of
your plans include a move almost 1,500 miles away, just remember that "you
can take the boy out of New York but you can't take New York out of the boy.
As someone who spent part of my under-graduate time in the Mid-West, trust
me on that one.  LOL
Again, the best to you and I stand prepared to assist the new leadership of
the Student Division in any way they wish and I am able.

Hello all, I write to inform you of my resignation from the post as
President of the New York Association of Blind Students. It has been a
great experience to have held this position for two years, to have
worked with a wonderful board, and to have seen the division grow in
numbers and in the intensity with which it continues to pursue the
goals set forth by our division’s constitution.

The reason for my resignation is not unwillingness to continue working
with the division. Rather, opportunities have opened up for me outside
of New York state, and I have chosen to pursue them, and cannot
responsibly hold on to the position with the knowledge that I will be
so far removed from the students which I am to represent. As such, I
know that our student division should be led by someone who resides
and attends school within New York, and will be better prepared and
informed to attend to student affairs in this state.

As our constitution states, upon resignation of the president of the
division, the vice president will take on that role.

Kathryn Carroll has been our Vice President for the past year, and
will now take over the position of president. She is well informed
about the issues of blind students in New York State, a native New
Yorker, and is more than ready to lead our division.

I will miss you all, and I look forward to seeing what NYABS will
accomplish in the next year!
