The tech team at NYPL’s Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book LIbrary is pleased to offer a new kind of Windows screen reader workshop! Feel free to spread the word in your networks if you know blind and low-vision folks who are proficient with the keyboard and looking for a working understanding of how to use Windows with any screen reader. Please note that our workshops are not recorded although we do offer session notes, a weekly recap and office hours.
Using Windows with a Screen Reader: a 12-Week Workshop
Wednesdays beginning Oct 1, 11 - 1 PM Eastern
Blind and low-vision people who use Windows have three screen readers to choose from. In a world where software changes frequently, it often benefits us to know more than one screen reader. We'll be using a free ebook, the Windows Screen Reader Primer, to learn to navigate Windows confidently with any screen reader. We'll cover getting around in Windows, managing files, writing documents, going online, and understanding the basics of navigation in Excel and Powerpoint. This workshop is for you if you can commit to attending most sessions, doing weekly reading and practicing your new skills.
This workshop will take place online.
