Dear NYAGDU members also President Gwizdala if you wish to post this to the NAGDU list. I am not on there anymore but thought this would be of interest.
At the present time I do not have time to part take in the Guide Dog Foundation Alumni Coucil.
I received the e-mail today from Karen Greis in Consumer Services, and thought that any member of NAGDU/NYAGDU that is a graduate should know about this.
Also they should know if they do not already, that GDF has an alumni talk list on yahoogroups.com

GUIDE
DOG FOUNDATION AND AMERICA'S VETDOGS OPEN APPLICATIONS FOR ALUMNI COUNCIL
All
current graduates of the Guide Dog foundation and America's VetDogs are invited
to consider service on our Alumni Council. the Alumni Council assists the
Consumer Services Office by:
·
Promoting
the services and benefits of the Guide Dog foundation and America's VetDogs
·
Assisting
applicants, students and graduates throughout the process of receiving a guide
or service dog
·
Assisting
graduates with advocacy issues related to their guide or service dogs
·
Providing
support for graduates during the retirement process or traumatic situations
involving their guide or service dogs
·
Assisting
the Guide Dog Foundation and America's VetDogs by evaluating technology and
procedures
Alumni
Council members serve from approval through June 30 of the next year with
eligibility
for renewal for an additional year.
Most
meetings and correspondence are held using email with a dedicated email list
for
Council members. Some telephone conferences are required. The Council is
asked
to attend a yearly training on campus when fiscally possible. Estimated
time commitment
is 2 hours per week on average. Council members also sign a
confidentiality agreement.
Eligibility
Requirements:
In
order to apply for Council membership, you:
·
Must
be a graduate of the Guide Dog Foundation or America’s VetDogs program.
·
Must
be part of a current working team or waiting for a class or placement date for
the Guide Dog or service
dog program.
·
Must
have worked with his/her current dog for at least six months.
·
Must
be able to use Microsoft Word and read accessible Adobe PDF files.
·
Must
have a personal email account that is not shared.
·
Must
be willing and able to commit two to three hours per week.
·
Must
be willing to sign and abide by confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.
Additional
helpful skills include:
·
Ability
to advocate for oneself and his/her guide or service dog.
·
Membership
or affiliation to organizations of or for the vision impaired, veterans, etc.
·
Experience
in delivering presentations to consumers, donors, volunteers, business owners,
staff, etc.
·
Knowledge
of GDF and AVD programs.
·
Experience
in handling denial of access issues.

2013. Interviews
for Council positions will take place during the first week of
September.
