I just got a notice from the big vet hospital in New York City that there is a lot of parvo around just now. It can kill dogs, particularly puppies. I pasted the info they sent below my signature.

🐾 Canine parvovirus is shed through the feces of infected dogs, but dogs don’t need to come into contact with each other to catch the disease – just the virus.

🐾 The virus is extremely resilient and can live on surfaces for many months.

🐾 Extreme temperatures will not kill parvovirus and neither will soap, hand sanitizer, or Lysol. The only home solution that kills parvo is bleach, diluted 1:30 with water, applied to the contaminated surface for a minimum of ten minutes.

🐾 Puppies are extremely vulnerable to this disease and are not protected until they receive their full series of vaccinations.
