Hi all,

To further discussion on this, we will talk about it on our meeting
Friday after the panel (see the agenda in the email I previously sent
out this evening please). I will explain more on the call so everyone
has clarification, but here is why we want to create the video, and
the artistic vision I have for it since I'll be using Windows Movie
Maker to put it together.

Benefits:
Nice companion to the written brochure.
We can put it in our email signature and spread it around the web.
We can feature it on our web site.
A lot of blind people, family members of blind people, etc use Youtube
and may be more likely to stumble upon the video than our brochure.
The Youtube channel we will create will be just one more avenue of
connecting people to our site. We can put the link to our site in the
video description, add other videos in the future, etc.

Cons? I have yet to find one.

Here's what I would like to do.
The video opens to a blue background. "The Ohio Association of Blind
Students" appears in large, white lettering. It fades. Still on a
blue background, "A division of the National Federation of the Blind
of Ohio and the National Association of Blind Students" appears, also
in white writing. That writing fades. Background music with a
lively, bouncy beat, plays in the background. Note that I've already
worked around copyright issues; the song I found is under a creative
commons license.
The volume of the music decreases to make way for narration and
speeches from members of the board.
Narrator speaks introductory text, to be written. Pictures of OABS
members doing various things scroll as the narrator speaks. (I'm
going for the "live the life you want" theme here). The text will
include something stating we're OABS, we seek to promote educational
opportunities and general welfare for blind students, and like the NFB
we know students can accomplish the same things that sighted students
do. Pictures of Aleeha horseback riding, Macy or Kaiti in marching
band, Emily or Lillie at AQT matches, general pictures of people
climbing rock walls, swimming, going down ziplines, smiling with
friends, etc would be good here.
First interview. Someone briefly explains what the NFB is, and how
OABS functions as a part of it and NABS."
Narrator resumes speech and starts talking about what OABS seeks to
do. What we advocate for. Pictures of students using technology or
braille would be good here.
Speaker talks briefly about how things like braille, technology,
independent living skills training are very important. (I'm thinking
Macy would be good for this clip, but we can discuss specifics for
interviews later).
Narrator talks about why the work of OABS is important, and how what
we do can impact the lives of blind students. Show pictures or silent
videos of students doing things. Aleeha working Dallas would be good
here. Students traveling independently with canes would also work
well. A video of someone traveling with a cane beside a sighted
friend, carrying on conversation as they go (without using sighted
guide) would be really good because it would look so natural.
Speaker can say how OABS has personally helped them in a way. They
can also include the NFB in this, since we're a part of that too.
Narrator talks about what we're currently working on. Fundraising,
how people can join and support. Images can include shots of our web
site, and any pictures from convention this year (especially selling
or drawing raffle tickets if we have them). The picture of Emily and
Aleeha with the quilt Aleeha's grandmother donated last year would
also be cool here.
Speaker talks about our fundraising and membership committees, and
what they're currently working on.
Cut to final speaker, who sincerely and warmly welcomes new members to
join and to learn more about us.
End with the picture of the board holding the "Division on the Move"
certificate at this year's banquet. The words, "Live the Life You
Want" come into view on a blue background with the NFB logo, and a
final reminder to visit us at our web site. Narrator would speak this
as well.

I've seen this format used with other videos put out by the national
organization, and other companies. It works well because it's
visually and auditorily engaging. We'll talk about it on Friday, but
I'd love to get some chatter going about it if anyone has any burning
ideas or comments to add.
