[Oagdu] option for community service

Dear friends,

Since I have been working with the Guide Dog Legislation Committee that
Marianne Denning chairs, I was unable to be on the call last week. But I
listened to the recording of the call. I am pleased that those few who were
able to be on the call voted favorably to retain an option for community
service with an organization that serves people with disabilities. If, for
example, such an organization happens to be involved with guide work, or
folks who use guide dogs are also involved in same organization, such
community service might be a way to better educate those who are guilty of
mis-representing their animals as service animals. There has been much talk
on the NAGDU list lately about increased and better education for both
business owners and consumers about the proper tasks and behavior
expectations of service animals. Granted, not everyone will benefit from
efforts to educate them, but without that community service option in the
legislation changes, we have no teeth to support that effort.
