Hi Lisie,
Sorry for the late reply, I've been out of town for the last few days, at my sister's wedding. I would have liked to have helped out with this. I hope it went well! Can you please share with us how things went.
Thanks!
Deanna

Subject: [Oagdu] Tomorrow: Last Minute -- Anyone Near Dayton? Need help with a demo!

Hi, other Ohio NFB people!

Is there anyone in the Dayton area who might be interested in helping with an educational service dog demonstration/talk tomorrow (Friday), at 4 pm near Dayton, OH?

Someone asked me about doing a service dog demo/talk during a nearby event. I said I'd like to -- this was over a month ago. Today, I found out she scheduled it for tomorrow!

The director of the school that my dog and I graduated from as a Hearing Dog team is going to do a talk and a demo of what service dogs can do for people who have mobility disabilities and psychiatric ones like PTSD.

If it's not too hot, my pup and I are going to help with a quick demo of hearing dog work. I'd planned on letting a few older kids try walking with Finn "guiding" them, also. I'm blind at night (with light perception!), but my vision during the day can still be corrected to the point where I'm not yet legally blind. Since this is a daytime event, I felt comfortable enough to volunteer to do some short walks with my dog with some older children; I'd let the kids hold onto the handle of his harness, while I held his leash and I guided both him AND the child around a few obstacles (mostly little orange cones I found at Hobby Lobby, nothing terribly exciting, haha).

I'd also planned on a couple of other service dog and guide dog teams coming, along with a long-time puppy raiser, to be a part of it and talk just a little about what they do. But, without much advance notice, no one else can make it.

The talk/demo is NOT part of fundraising for the program we graduated from (Wagmor Service Dogs/Angels for Veterans). It's purely educational.

I wanted to ask here -- if anyone happens to live in the Dayton area and might have some extra time tomorrow afternoon, would anyone maybe want to come help with our last-minute demo/talk? It'll be 15-30 minutes long, depending on questions and how many people will be part of the demo. It'll start at 4 pm or shortly after 4, and it's being held in conjunction with another event, outdoors; there will be a small audience, no more than 30 people, I'd say.

If anyone is potentially interested, please, please will you let me know? You can email me at lisiefoster at yahoo.com or call me (via the relay service for the deaf and hard of hearing that I use on the phone) at 937-387-7995. I know I'm probably being overly hopeful, but I had to ask *smile*. I'll give more info about where it will be and other details privately; I don't like to do post that much on publicly-archived lists just for safety reasons. I trust all of YOU, just not the random people who might find the archive!

Thank you for reading this!!
