Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know how my mom is doing. The surgery went well and she is recovering nicely. She spent the night in the hospital on Friday night and came home on Saturday around 7:00 PM. She is on restrictions for a while, so no bending, lifting or twisting. This is hard for her, as she is used to doing all of these things. So, she’s being very stubborn and trying to do more than she is able to. She is definitely walking better, not stooped over and it doesn’t hurt as much. She is still having a lot of pain though, which is mostly due to the actual surgery, and not nerve pain anymore. So, things look pretty good.

Thanks everyone!

Deanna

Hi all,

As you may recall, my mom has been having a lot of back and leg pain recently. She had an MRI in mid-April which revealed that she has spinal stenosis and bulging discs. It also showed that a piece of the bulging disc had broken off and was free-floating, which was most likely causing the pain. They had hoped the disc fragment would dissolve on its own and she wouldn’t need surgery. She spent few days in the hospital to build back up her strength and was doing pretty good at home. But, then her leg started to get numb, which wasn’t a good sign, because it could mean nerve damage. So, her Neurosurgeon decided that she needed surgery. Luckily, the numbness went away, but now her pain is back. She is going in tomorrow to have the disc fragment removed. It sounds like the recovery period isn’t too bad. She will spend the night in the hospital following her surgery and be able to drive after 5 days. Hopefully, the surgery will ease her pain, because she has really been struggling to walk and stand for more than a few minutes.

I really like her doctor, he loves animals and went crazy when he met Mambo. But, who wouldn’t? LOL. We have to be at the hospital at 5:00 AM, yuck! I wonder if Mambo will object to being fed his breakfast so early! /smiles/.

Just wanted to let you all know what’s going on.

Deanna
