Taking Care of You

There are some people who are so used to always being the “giver” that when they are in need, they wouldn’t dream of asking for help. They’re so conditioned to take care of others that they have an unbalanced sense of give and take. The “givers” of this world are often unnoticed and underappreciated. It’s no wonder that when their cup runs dry, there’s no one to fill it, so they can easily feel unloved and become discouraged. God wants you to help others but He doesn’t expect you to be a doormat or let people take advantage of you. God created man in His image and He wants you to love yourself too. David had a healthy understanding about how God made him. We’re told in Psalm 139:14, “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Listen to your body when it’s asking for a break. Respect your mind when it’s seeking rest and honor yourself when you need a quiet moment alone. Treat yourself with the respect you deserve because you belong to Jesus, the King of the Universe, and He thinks you’re awesome. It’s good to help others but God wants you to take care of “you” too! Take time to smell the roses, read that book you’ve been wanting to read, enjoy a peaceful walk, or just spend some quiet moments alone with God. Take time for you! Love and help others, but don’t forget that you’re important too. And don’t be fooled by the “takers” of this world. Not everyone who loves you will stay and not everyone who you trust will be loyal. Neither will everyone you help be there when you’re in need. If you want to be a “giver” who is used by God and not by man, then ask God to take control of your life. Ask Him to guide your actions and to make it clear “who to help” as well as who “not to help.” Letting God have control of your schedule is the only way to be a “giver for God,” and you can be sure that He won’t forget about taking care of you too! Text: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Mark 6:31, Ephesians 5:29, Romans 12:1

Bible Texts:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV - Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

Mark 6:31 NKJV - And He said to them, "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.

Ephesians 5:29 NKJV - For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

Romans 12:1 NKJV - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
