Move Toward God and Remember

Asaph, one of the Levites that King David assigned as a worship leader in the tabernacle choir, was not only a skilled singer, poet and prophet, but also authored some of the chapters in Psalms, including the verses for today.

Our Lord, I will remember the things you have done, your miracles of long ago. I will think about each one of your mighty deeds.

In Asaph’s day, the Scripture you now read, was read or sung from the temple. The words of Psalm 77 can provide comfort through hardship by acknowledging God’s help during difficult times in the past. Remembering the miracles God has done in your life gives you courage to press forward because He is ever faithful.

Move toward God and worship Him.

Asaph cried out to God for courage during a dark season of doubt. His faith began to increase as his focus shifted from himself to God by recalling what God had done in the lives of His people. In verses 11 and 12, Asaph moved toward God by declaring he would remember and meditate on His miraculous works.

Memories of God’s miraculous intervention will sustain you through trials, depression and doubt. It doesn’t even have to be something He did in your own life. It can be something He did long ago, like parting the Red Sea or Jesus healing the leper. You can experience God and grow in faith by hearing what He has done in the lives of others.

As you tell God how you feel and what you need, remember who He is and what He has done. He is the God of miracles. As you move toward Him in worship, declaring your focus shifts from your situation to His ability to do great things in your life.

As you face hurdles in life, trust that He will bring you over them, and remind yourself today that God is more than able to work out those things that concern you.
