Am I a Fool?
You can tell quite a bit about someone if you were to view their bank statements and see where they spend their money. That information will tell you what’s most important to them. Matthew 6:21 tells us, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Do you donate to charities, pay tithe, and give generous offerings? Or do you avoid all religious donations (rationalizing that you just can’t afford it) and instead make payments on a new luxury car, brand new speed boat, fancy restaurants, or exotic vacations? Many people in the world today have but one goal and that is to make enough money so that they can buy all the things they think will make them happy. They want to “live the good life.” Some will lie, cheat, or even steal to get what they want. Others will marry someone they don’t even love just to get their money. And there are those who are willing to work hard to be wealthy, so hard in fact, that they never see their spouses or children. Many work their whole lives striving to get rich only to find out at the end of their lives that money can’t buy happiness! Their marriage is destroyed, their children bitter, and friends are gone. And all those material possessions are meaningless. The Bible says in Luke 12:15, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Let’s be clear: it is not a sin to be wealthy. The Bible clearly states in 1 Timothy 6:10: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” Many Christians skip right over the most important word in that text and that is “love.” Money itself is not the sin–but rather the “love” of money. If wealth means more to you than God, that’s where you get in trouble. Whether you are rich or poor, everyone has a choice to make: pursue the things of this world accumulating earthly treasures or spend your money on spiritual things so that others will learn more about God and you will be laying up your treasure in heaven. Jesus is the only One who can give you real joy, peace, and most of all . . . eternal life with Him. Keep in mind that every good gift is from God and on the day of judgment you’ll have to account for how you spent your money and the choices you made. Someone once said, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain that which he cannot lose.” Ask yourself today, “Who does my heart belong to? Am I wise?” or “Am I a fool?” Text: 1 Timothy 6:10, 17-19, Ecclesiastes 5:10, Hebrews 13:5, Proverbs 22:1

Bible Texts:
1 Timothy 6:10, 17-19 NKJV - For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. ... Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 NKJV - He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.

Hebrews 13:5 NKJV - Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

Proverbs 22:1 NKJV - A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold.
