God Thinks You’re Awesome
Worrying about what others think of you is emotionally and spiritually draining, and it will leave you feeling insecure, anxious, and stressed out. Christian writer Ethel Barrett once said, “We would worry less about what others think of us if we realized how seldom they do.” Oh, how true that is. Most people are way too busy worrying about themselves to be thinking about anyone else. You can easily get paranoid and think everyone is talking about you, when in reality, no one was. And don’t listen to gossip either–it’s none of your business what others are thinking about you. It’s just another one of the devil's tools to cast doubt on God’s love for you. The Bible says in Proverbs 29:25, “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” Listening to negative talk isn’t going to lift you up or encourage you. Hearing someone tell you that your best friend talks behind your back, the people at church think you’re stingy, your neighbor says you’re a bad parent, or any other insulting nonsense is not going to draw you close to Jesus or make you want to act in a Christlike way. Stop trying to live up to an image that others have for you. If you were kinder to yourself then you’d be less affected by the opinions of those around you. Be so secure in God’s love for you that you will not be dependent on people’s thoughts of you. Basing your identity on the way others judge you will not only lead to discouragement and insecurity, but it will distract you from being the person God wants you to be. No matter what you do, good or bad, there will always be someone who has something negative to say. You can’t change what people think of you–you can only change “your” thoughts. Don’t wait until you're old to stop caring about what others think of you and to focus on living a life pleasing to God. Remember, it doesn’t matter what others think–God’s opinion is all that matters . . . and He thinks you’re awesome! Text: Galatians 1:10, Jeremiah 17:5, Matthew 5:10-12, 1 Corinthians 2:2
Bible Texts:
Galatians 1:10 NKJV - For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.
Jeremiah 17:5 NKJV - Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.
Matthew 5:10-12 NKJV - Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. "Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
1 Corinthians 2:2 NKJV - For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
