Bondage of Addiction
The personal suffering from addiction cannot be calculated because it torments the very souls of those suffering from this horrifying affliction. It is a disease that not only causes pain to the addicted but to all their family and friends as well. It’s so destructive that relationships are shattered, families torn apart, and lives destroyed. Addiction affects people from all walks of life, no matter what country you are from, what color you are, whether you are rich or poor, young or old. Addicts are so desperate for their next “fix” that they often steal from people they love just to support their habit. Sadly, there is not a lot of understanding and empathy for addicts. Just like in Bible times, no one wanted to be near lepers. They were shunned and cast aside. Addicts today are treated much the same way. They are looked upon with disgust and disdain. But no one despises them more than they despise themselves. Self-hate is at the very top of the list of things that cause them unbearable pain. No one wants to be an addict–they are just too weak to break free from the pull of evil. The truth is, only Jesus could heal the lepers and only Jesus can give freedom from the bondage of addiction. Psalm 146:7 says, “The Lord sets prisoners free.” And John 8:36 tells us, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” No matter how repulsive addicts are to themselves or others, Jesus loves them more than they could possibly imagine. He is willing and waiting to save. Jesus healed the lepers and He wants to give healing from addiction too. In John 15:7, God’s promise is very clear: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” Countless people have overcome addiction by putting themselves in the hands of our loving Lord and Savior–for nothing is hopeless when you give God control of your life. He has given His Holy Word to instruct, convict, and set you free from the bondage of addiction and offer you the assurance of salvation. Mark 10:27 declares, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.” TEXT: James 4:7, 1 Peter 2:11, 1 John 5:4, 2 Corinthians 12:9

Bible Texts:
James 4:7 NKJV - Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

1 Peter 2:11 NKJV - Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,

1 John 5:4 NKJV - For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith.

2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV - And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
