I Just Lost My Job
Why does it hurt so much when we lose a church member or family to another church or when they get out of church totally?

A short message from Dr. David Baker
If you are already in the ministry, then you understand this; and if you are training for the ministry you will need this in the future.
I remember the first time it happened.
I was a young pastor in my 20’s and a family that I had led to Christ left our church to go to another church where a former pastor of theirs just took over as pastor.
It hurt…
Why did it hurt so much? I went to God to ask…
He (quietly in my spirit) helped me with it.
What is the thing that hurts a man just about more than anything?
Losing a job.
More men commit suicide over their financial problems and the loss of a job than just about anything.
When this happens to a man, it isn’t good at all.
It hurts his image, his ego, his manhood, and his attitude on life.
Because a man is made for his work, it is usually very hard for him to take.
Therefore man is at his worst, when he doesn’t have a job, or when he loses a job.
As a pastor, it is different. I am not a pastor of a “church” per say, but I am the Jones’ pastor or the Smith’s pastor.
If any person or family leaves our church, then I JUST LOST MY JOB!
That can happen every week. Ouch! That hurts.
I believe the preachers in the Bible felt the same way sometimes.
2 Timothy 4:10‑-11 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
Demas forsook Paul because he loved this present world.
Then he said in the same verse, and I believe in the same context:
Crescens to Galatia (he got backslidden in the world, and went to Galatia).
Titus didn’t stay in Crete like I told him to do. He went to Dalmatia.
Can you hear Paul’s voice?
Can you see the tear in his eye?
Can you feel his hurt for them?
When a true pastor loses someone that he loves, and has worked so much to try to help, it hurts like you just lost your job.
I don’t like to lose a job.
I have never lost a job out in the world. I have never been fired.
I always went on from one job to another one.
It really hurts to lose a job as being someone’s Pastor.
I think it hurt Paul. He said, “Only Luke is with me.”
I am going to give you two simple things to do to be able to help you.
1.) TRY TO GET YOUR JOB BACK.
That is the first thing you need to do. Don’t give up!
Satan would love for you to give up, and for you not to try.
Get with it, fight, pray, work, love, and do everything you can do to get your job back.
Many times the member just got backslidden, or discouraged, or hurt, or there was a misunderstanding that can be fixed and you can get them back.
If you had a good job, and you lost it, and you talked to the boss and got your job back, you would be on cloud nine.
I believe that is what God wants us to do.
When one sheep has left the fold, what does the shepherd do?
He leaves and goes to try to get the runaway sheep.
The shepherd should leave and go try to get them back.
Paul got Mark back, and you can tell he was glad about it.
Sometimes, though, someone left who had been causing strife and division in the church, and therefore, it is best to just let them go. However, there are other good people that the Devil has messed with that you can help restore.
2.) GO GET ANOTHER JOB.
I know this is very deep, but the only real way to feel any better about the situation is to go get another job.
You need someone else to invest in that wants to give you a job helping them.
When you go get someone else to help, then you can feel like you are fulfilling your job.
Paul was discouraged that the Jews rejected Paul’s message of Jesus.
Acts 13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
Because the Jews rejected Paul and Jesus, Paul got a new job.
That job was to the Gentiles. That is the only way you can make it.
There will be some people that won’t let you help them.
Pray for them, but go get another job.
Jesus felt like that..........
Matt 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
The people had just rejected Him by crying, “Crucify Him, Crucify Him.”
What did Jesus do? He led one of the thieves on the cross to Christ. He got another job.
The only thing you can do is find someone else to help.
Check and see why Jesus went to Samaria to tell someone how to go to Heaven.
He said that a prophet was not without honor, save in his own country.
When he was in his own country, they did not respect him.
He said I just need to go through Samaria.
Why? I have to get another job. I have to find someone that will let me help him. I live to help others, and if they won’t let me here, then I have to go to someone who will let me help him.
Get another job.
Help someone else.
