An Amazing Fact: There are over 300,000 different species of beetles in the world, but among them the bombardier beetle has been created with one of the most incredible defense systems in the natural world. Whenever threatened by an enemy attack from ants, frogs, or spiders, this spirited little beetle shoots a jet of boiling chemicals and irritating, foul-smelling gases at its attacker. This toxic spray explodes from two tail pipes on the tip of its abdomen, right into the face of the unfortunate aggressor.

With some bombardier beetles you can actually hear the explosion as a loud popping, which is a result of rapid firing. This rapid-fire action is called ?pulse combustion? and jets the boiling liquid out at over 500 pulses per second and 212 degrees Fahrenheit! In addition, the beetle can rotate the end of its abdomen 270 degrees in any direction like a tiny cannon and hit the target with extreme accuracy.

Scientists and chemists have studied the bombardier beetle and learned that he makes his explosive by mixing together two very volatile chemicals?hydroquinone and hydrogen peroxide. In addition to these two chemicals, this clever little beetle adds another type of chemical known as an inhibitor. The inhibitor enables the beetle to store the chemicals indefinitely without blowing itself up. Whenever our beetle friend is approached by a predator, he squirts the stored chemicals into the two combustion tubes and, at the same moment, he adds another chemical?an anti-inhibitor. This knocks out the inhibitor, and a violent explosion occurs, scorching the poor attacker. But somehow the beetle is not bothered by the heat and irritation that comes from its own spray.

It is preposterous to believe that such a marvelous and complex mechanism could have evolved piecemeal over millions of years. This would require thousands of generations of these little beetles blowing themselves to pieces until finally they mastered their explosive gift.

Did you know those who mix prayer and Bible study can expect explosive power? The Bible says, ?For the word of God is living and powerful ?? (Hebrews 4:12). And the Lord promises those who love Him, ?He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him? (Psalm 91:15). Wouldn?t you like to be answered by the God of the universe, and experience the power of His Word in your life today?

Foggy Lenses
What a different world this would be if everyone could see themselves through God?s eyes. Sadly, most people see through thick, dark lenses?all fogged over with criticism, self-loathing, and judgment. If you don?t look, talk, or act like the ?in? crowd?then you believe yourself to be odd, weird, and someone no one would want to be with. You judge yourself harshly?expecting perfection and angry when you fall short. You may even have trouble believing anyone could possibly love you?because you have such a low opinion of yourself. But the truth is, if you could clean your glasses and look at yourself the way God sees you, it would be a whole different picture. God thinks you?re special! He thinks you?re beautiful, talented, and smart because He made you in His image! When God looks at you, He sees His perfect creation? His son or daughter that He loves so much that He gave His life just so that you could be with Him in heaven forever! Love just doesn?t get deeper than that! The Bible says in John 3:16, ?For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.? So whenever you get discouraged, feel worthless, or just plain disappointed with yourself, stop . . . take off those foggy lenses and take a good look at yourself through God?s eyes. Remember that you are the daughter or son of the King of the Universe and no matter how bad you mess up, make mistakes, or disappoint yourself . . . Jesus loves you . . . and He always will! Text: 1 John 3:1, Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:9-11, Zephaniah 3:17

Bible Texts:
1 John 3:1 NKJV - Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

Romans 5:8 NKJV - But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:9-11 NKJV - In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV - The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."
