Stretching the Truth
It’s hard to decipher nowadays whether or not the truth is the truth! People have become so accustomed to telling a story and slanting the facts so that the listener will share their opinion–that you don’t know what to believe. And each time the story is told–the details keep changing. After a while, the person exaggerating loses all credibility and you train yourself to listen to that person knowing you are not hearing the whole truth. Sadly, a person who exaggerates the truth, not only tarnishes their reputation–but they are not a person with integrity! Even more important–“stretching the truth” is the same thing as lying in God’s eyes and lying is a sin! The Bible says in Proverbs 12:22, “The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy. And in Leviticus 19:11, God commands, “Do not steal. Do not lie. Do not deceive one another.” Being honest, trustworthy and a person of integrity is critically important to God. If your goal is to be like Jesus so that you can spend eternity with Him in heaven, then you must not “stretch the truth,” but rather practice honesty in all that you do and say! Text: Psalm 119:163, Proverbs 13:5, Zephaniah 3:12-13, Ephesians 4:29

Bible Texts:
Psalm 119:163 NKJV - I hate and abhor lying, [But] I love Your law.

Proverbs 13:5 NKJV - A righteous [man] hates lying, But a wicked [man] is loathsome and comes to shame.

Zephaniah 3:12-13 NKJV - I will leave in your midst A meek and humble people, And they shall trust in the name of the LORD. The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness And speak no lies, Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; For they shall feed [their] flocks and lie down, And no one shall make [them] afraid.

Ephesians 4:29 NKJV - Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
