Lazy Bones
Laziness is a condition that affects every aspect of your life, including at school, at home, in the workplace, in your family, and in all other relationships. Sadly, laziness carries over to your spiritual life as well, but it has no place in the character of a follower of Christ. God despises laziness. The Bible refers to lazy people as “sluggards” because they don’t do their fair share of the work. Proverbs 24:30 says, “I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense.” Wow! The Bible even calls lazy people senseless! Proverbs 14:23 says, “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.” God wants all His children to work. You need to work to survive. Even Adam and Eve had chores to do in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 says, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Being lazy at work is bad enough but laziness when it comes to spiritual things is far worse. If you occasionally read the Bible, skip devotions altogether, or go to church when “you feel like it,” you’re in trouble, because the longer you stay in this lazy condition, the harder it is to change. Proverbs 6:9 tells us, “But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up?” God is saying to you, “Wake up! Stop being lazy - how long are you going to sleep your life away?” You may have your names on the church books, but the truth is, you are spiritually dead - you just don’t know it. Overcome laziness by praying for God to change you. Ask God to give you energy, strength, and endurance. Be intentional about spending time every day with God with a strong determination to stay true to your commitment. You can stop being a senseless sluggard, or “lazy bones,” by claiming Matthew 19:26, “With God all things are possible.” Text: Proverbs 6:6, Proverbs 20:4, Colossians 3:23, Ecclesiastes 10:18

Bible Texts:
Proverbs 6:6 NKJV - Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise,

Proverbs 20:4 NKJV - The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing.

Colossians 3:23 NKJV - And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,

Ecclesiastes 10:18 NKJV - Because of laziness the building decays, And through idleness of hands the house leaks.
