Who Is Jesus?

While most people are familiar with the name “Jesus,” few truly know who He is. Yet knowing Jesus’ identity and mission are important because the ramifications are eternal. And the best source of information about Him is the Bible.
Scripture tells us Jesus is God. This means that He’s eternal: He existed before His physical birth and even before time began. Jesus, the Creator of everything that exists ( <https://intouch.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dc92245755b49b0fd033acd1c&id=6ea34db634&e=0a0ad1fce4> Col. 1:15-17), is the perfect reflection of the invisible God. Our Savior had the power to forgive sins and was worshipped by His followers—both of which are appropriate only for divinity ( <https://intouch.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dc92245755b49b0fd033acd1c&id=06ec314ce1&e=0a0ad1fce4> Matt. 9:2-8; <https://intouch.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dc92245755b49b0fd033acd1c&id=70112850da&e=0a0ad1fce4> Matt. 14:33).
Think about the omnipotent, eternal Son of God coming to Earth as an infant. Imagine Him lying in a manger made from trees He created and under the stars He Himself had strewn across the sky! Scripture makes it clear that this was no ordinary baby. The Word also says there is only one way to eternal life, and that is through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior ( <https://intouch.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dc92245755b49b0fd033acd1c&id=8fab88648c&e=0a0ad1fce4> Acts 4:12). God has provided ample validation of His Son’s identity. Weigh the evidence, and then turn to Christ for salvation.
The Unrivaled Power of Prayer
We do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. <https://click.messages.odb.org/?qs=c8014b48ecf06443c6a2d057359c7a48737205b56dfc52d596be6c4b1e89c23e9b4c405d9d490f6309ba9b2b85d1071421dfc0c59cea35b9abc471b52041a1dc> ROMANS 8:26
We realize that we are energized by the Holy Spirit for prayer; and we know what it is to pray in accordance with the Spirit; but we don’t often realize that the Holy Spirit Himself prays prayers in us which we cannot utter ourselves. When we are born again of God and are indwelt by the Spirit of God, He expresses for us the unutterable.
“He,” the Holy Spirit in you, “makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God” ( <http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+8:27> Romans 8:27). And God searches your heart, not to know what your conscious prayers are, but to find out what the prayer of the Holy Spirit is.
The Spirit of God uses the nature of the believer as a temple in which to offer His prayers of intercession. “…your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…” ( <http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+6:19> 1 Corinthians 6:19 ). When Jesus Christ cleansed the temple, “…He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple” ( <http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+11:16> Mark 11:16). The Spirit of God will not allow you to use your body for your own convenience. Jesus ruthlessly cast out everyone who bought and sold in the temple, and said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer…. But you have made it a ‘den of thieves’ ” ( <http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+11:17> Mark 11:17).
Have we come to realize that our “body is the temple of the Holy Spirit”? If so, we must be careful to keep it undefiled for Him. We have to remember that our conscious life, even though only a small part of our total person, is to be regarded by us as a “temple of the Holy Spirit.” He will be responsible for the unconscious part which we don’t know, but we must pay careful attention to and guard the conscious part for which we are responsible.

WISDOM FROM OSWALD CHAMBERS
Our danger is to water down God’s word to suit ourselves. God never fits His word to suit me; He fits me to suit His word.
from Not Knowing Whither, 901 R
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
Romans 12:15
The famous novelist and playwright Samuel Beckett received great recognition for his work—but not from everyone. Beckett’s marriage was plagued by his wife’s jealousy of his growing fame and success.
So one day in 1969, Samuel heard her answer the phone, listen for a moment, and hang up. She turned to her husband and with a disappointed tone whispered, “What a catastrophe.” She had just learned that Beckett had been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature!
Jealousy comes in different forms—good and bad. There is the good, kind jealousy that we see in Exodus 20:5 where God tells the Israelites to have no other God except for Him. This is not a jealousy birthed out of insecurity. God was not jealous of other gods… He is jealous for the hearts of His people.
On the other hand, there’s the bad kind of jealousy, a jealousy that is rooted in sin and shame and wishes failure on others instead of success. This is the kind of jealousy that, as Christians, we’re to avoid. In fact, as we see others who are successful in life and who God blesses abundantly, we’re to rejoice with them in those blessings!
Don’t allow jealousy to embitter you. Instead, rejoice with those whom God blesses and in due time, He’ll bless you, too!

Pray that God would give you the strength and courage not to be just a complainer, but to be a doer!
** Questions for Thought
------------------------------------------------------------
Aging presents a temptation to think about the abilities you’ve lost. Rather than focus on what you can’t do, what abilities to you have that the Lord could use even today?
Are you every tempted to think the Lord can’t use you anymore? Replace that thought with the truth of Ephesians 2:10 which says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
