Time to Be Silent

There are some relationships that experience “the silent treatment,” whenever one of the partners is not happy with the other. Instead of talking it out and reaching an understanding, they choose to “punish” their mate by not communicating with them. Sometimes this can go on for hours, days or even weeks. Of course the longer the “silent treatment” lasts, the more danger to the relationship. It’s okay to take a break, think things through, and pray about it–but then open the door of communication as talking things out is always the best plan! It’s never good to speak in anger, because once spoken–those hateful words can never be erased. There are times that silence is welcomed, as it gives each other a chance to cool off and think more clearly. Before Christ’s crucifixion, when He was being accused of things He was not guilty of–He remained silent and never uttered a word to defend Himself. This is hard to comprehend, as it is human instinct to want vindication whenever falsely accused! We can learn a lot from Christ’s example, instead of defending ourselves with righteous indignation–we can pray silently for strength to see us through. It is through the quiet moments that we can feel God’s presence the most. Set aside time to be silent–to meditate on God’s word, pray, reflect and listen to the still, small voice of our Savior. Text: Isaiah 53:7, Jeremiah 33:3, Ecclesiastes 3:1, Psalm 141:3, Proverbs 19:23

Bible Texts:
Isaiah 53:7 NKJV - He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.

Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV - 'Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.'

Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV - To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:

Psalm 141:3 NKJV - Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.

Proverbs 19:23 NKJV - The fear of the LORD leads to life, And he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil.
