Impossible to Hate

The Bible tells us in John 15:12, "My command is this: love each other as I have loved you." It doesn’t tell us to love only those who are nice to us, look like us, act like us, or think like us. God wants us to love everyone! In fact, He makes it very clear that we are to love even those who hate us. In Luke 6:27 we’re told, “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” But it is impossible to love the unlovable without God’s love in our hearts. Our humanity simply doesn’t have the capacity to love as God loves. That’s why it’s important to be fully surrendered to Christ and allow His Holy Spirit to empower us with His love so that we can truly extend His mercy even to those who are unkind, spiteful, or disrespectful. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Every genuine expression of love grows out of a consistent and total surrender to God.” Your human love will never be enough to make an addict stop using, a thief stop stealing, a gossiper stop gossiping, or an enemy stop hating–but God’s love will! Remember that the power is always God’s! When Christ abides within us, it’s literally impossible to hate anyone because Jesus and hate cannot live in the same heart! First John 4:7 tells us, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” Text: Romans 12:14, 1 Peter 3:9, Luke 6:28, Ephesians 4:32
