Stay Out of the Ditch
Christ wants us to live a well-balanced, godly life, which means to stay safely in the middle of the road holding tight to His hand. If you wander off in either direction you will fall into one of the devil's dangerous ditches. On one side, the ditch is filled with smelly sewage from hatred, jealousy, anger, racism, criticism, selfishness, judgment, hypocrisy, and pride. Thinking that you are better than someone else, hating people because of their skin color, or being consumed with jealousy because you think your friend’s life is better than yours automatically throws you in that disgusting ditch where the stench is overwhelming and indescribable! On the other side, the ditch is more deceiving, but you can be sure it will choke the life out of you with the deceit it holds, for it is filled with fake promises and lies. Satan quietly whispers for you to stay in this ditch because it’s a “feel good” place to be. There everyone can do what they want and not have to concern themselves about being right or wrong. It’s complete freedom to live carelessly with no rules. Just pretend to love everyone and go through the motions of being a good person and you’ll have no worries. You can commit adultery, tell little white lies, smoke weed, drink, or do drugs. There exists a “no-guilt policy” in this ditch. No pressure to read the Bible, pray, or be obedient to God. You can just “be a good person” and relax in this bubble bath of delusion. The devil doesn’t care which deadly ditch you fall into . . . as long as you fall . . . because either way, he wins. The secret to staying out of the ditch and keeping on the straight and narrow path is to hold tight to your Savior’s hand and don’t let go. God will give you the strength to overcome all obstacles and temptations. The Bible says in James 4:8, “Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” Text: Matthew 7:13-14, Isaiah 35:8, Matthew 7:21-23, Matthew 23:28
Bible Texts:
Matthew 7:13-14 NKJV - "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
Isaiah 35:8 NKJV - A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray.
Matthew 7:21-23 NKJV - "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
Matthew 23:28 NKJV - "Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness."
