Annette thank you so very much for your comment, I truly appreciate it because I know the kind of person you are and yet you still took a stance and we’re at a point in our history that we must stand up and advocate for others and we are better than this and the good always outweighs the bad, and I would be remiss to say we realize many of our members have dual and multiple disabilities but there is no excuse for hatred under no circumstances blindness is our focus and religion, faith, deity, is our refuge. Thank you again. Carolyn Peters

I do not know who spoke this, nor do I expect anybody to name them publicly, but as a member of our affiliate Board of Directors, I want to apologize for any hurt feelings that one of our members caused. I particularly find the sad when it is linked to something as beautiful and loving as an invitation to learn about gospel music. This division is for all of us to share our faith. And, I am pretty confident in saying that no matter what our faith*, they teach love and acceptance of all. I pray to our father in heaven to help all people heal from such horrible thoughts, speech, and intentions. I don’t speak out much on list, and I don’t usually get too involved in such issues. But it very much saddened me to know that my friends, family, and those who I may not even know yet, could hear such insulting speech tied to one of our affiliate events.

Everyday we raise the expectations of blind people because we know that low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want, blindness is not what holds you back.

> Greetings Ohio Communities of Faith, it has been brought to my attention that on Monday, February 21, 2022, one of our affiliate members, a white female, use the N-word. The evening she was invited to participate in our black history program the origin of gospel music. I was not informed nor was I aware of the incident that took place on Monday. My sincerest apologies to those that were involved and were insulted, hurt and disillusion by the comments. Yet, I would be remiss if I did not express my sincerest concerns about where we are today in 2022, it’s not a matter of where a black person will be called the N-word or someone use the N-word in any context and think it’s OK because they feel privileged and comfortable saying what they want to say and to anyone they want to say it too.
> When I hear the word I shutter,, I think of my father, and my grandfather hearing the words…
> The word can be traced back in history to slavery, it was in the summer of 1619 when a ship arrived in a port in Virginia, carrying around 20 Africans who have been changed up and abused to be sold into slavery. The inward comes from the Spanish word for black which was miss pronounced.
> Unfortunately, in the spirit of the world today it is a matter of when a person of color a black person will be called the N-word. You may say Dr. peters all white people do not feel this way, and you will be correct it only takes one bad apple to spall a bushel. And we have mini white friends who support and encourages and they are not forgotten and we know who they are Jesus said he knows his sheep‘s voice and we know the voices of those who care about us as human beings and who respect us as we respect them.
> Are two greatest Commandments are one, love God with all our heart are sold in our mind, two, love that neighbor as die self. Let us pray for the strength and courage to be the Christians, Muslims, Jewish and all others who respect human life with dignity as we are being taught by our faith. Blessings ..
