Send your comments on proposed changes to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act by June 16!

The U.S. Energy Department has proposed changes to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act that are being moved forward without the typical notice and comment period.

These proposed changes will take away the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards. These are accessibility requirements for buildings that receive federal assistance and were built after 1980. 

Examples of places that must be accessible because of the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards include:

*	Federal buildings
*	Social Security offices
*	Mass transit
*	Post offices
*	National parks
*	Public housing
*	Schools
*	Hospitals, etc.  

Typically, when changes like this are proposed, there is a notice and comment period. This gives people who will be affected by the change time to make comments for the agency to consider before making a final decision. This process can sometimes take years. There is no notice and comment period for this change.

Instead, there is an opportunity to submit your comments online by Monday, June 16.

This change will harm many people with disabilities. Please consider submitting a comment below demanding that the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards stay in place.
