[Ohio-talk] Book Fair for Louis Braille

Greetings from the Miami Valley Chapter,

	On Sunday the 4th from 1 to 5pm the Miami Valley Chapter of the
National Federation of the Blind held two book fairs in honor of Louis
Braille's 200th anniversary.

	One was held at the Barns and Nobles in Miamisburg across the Dayton
Mall, and was facilitated by Vincent Fugate and Richard Payne.    

	There we had two Braille Writers where the kids could type their
name in Braille, or one of us could do that for them.  We also had Kernel
Books, a Slate and Stylus, a PAC Mate Omni BX, Braille Scrabble, Uno and Go
Fish in Braille.  At 2pm Vincent Fugate read the "Cat in the Hat" in Grade 2
Braille for the children's story time on stage, and there was a very good
turn out and everyone enjoyed it.

	Many people were very interested in the Myths about Braille, and the
Braille Alphabet cards

	Susan Day provided both locations with Louis Braille information,
Braille alphabet cards, the NFB book marks, Myths about Braille, information
about the new coin, and cookies with Louis Braille written on them.  

	The next location was held at the Barns and Noble in Beaver Creek
across from the Fairfield Commons Mall.  This was facilitated by Susan Day,
Ron Williamitis, Jason Perry, and Kathy Withman.

	There we had one Braille Writer, and a Slate and Stylus where we
would type or write the kids name in Braille for them.  We also had a label
maker, cd with a Braille label, two books from Hadley School for the Blind,
deck of cards, and a PAC Mate Omni BX.  There was no official reading, but
Susan Day demonstrated the Humpty Dumpy book written in Braille that had
pictures and Braille descriptions.

	Kathy Withman brought her Guide Dog, Bistro, and many people had
questions about her dog.

	Both locations had some good traffic, and raised funds for our
cause.  The Miamisburg store even wants to do this again in the summer.
