[Ohio-talk] Ohio-talk Digest, Vol 16, Issue 36

Dawn dlanting at bex.net

Hello all,
Dawn here from the Toledo chapter
Talking about meet the blind month
I had a idea of sitting up tables in the credit union that I belong too
I talked to the board of director and they said that that would be a fine
idea to do in October
There are two Jeep credit unions here in Toledo and we can set up a table in
each one and in the inside
Since I am new at this I don't know if other chapters have don't this or not
So I thought I would just spread the idea that others might look into
I am looking very much to going to the convention a little scared but
excited
Look forward to meeting all of you

Subject: Meet the Blind Month Seminar at National Convention--- Reminder

Greetings affiliate/chapter presidents and Meet the Blind Month planners:

Once again, we are only days away from our National Convention in Detroit,
Michigan. This message is a reminder of the Meet The Blind Month Activities
and Other Special Events Seminar on Sunday afternoon, July 5, from 3:15
p.m. to 4:45 p.m., in the Duluth B Room, Level 5.

Find out about entertaining and fun events that you can plan for your
affiliate or chapter's Meet the Blind Month in October. A new component of
Meet the Blind Month this year is Who's Whozit. Learn who Whozit is and
Whatzit all about.

Pickup ideas and strategies for planning other special events. We
encourage you to attend this seminar, or send a representative to share your
ideas and learn what other Meet the Blind Month activities are being planned
for this year.

In 2008, the NFB organized more than 400 events nationwide. I anticipate
that we will exceed that number in 2009

Effective and successful events take time to plan properly, organize, and
advertise. Make your upcoming events as successful as possible by learning
techniques used by Federationists around the country.

Looking forward to your attendance.

Best regards,

Jerry

1 My cell number is 740.707.5114 so use it if you have to because it will be
the best way to contact me at the Convention. Please share it with those
that do not have access to email.

2 Our Caucus will be held in the LaSalle b room on Level 5 of the Mariott.
It will start promptly at 5-30 and I will move it along as quickly as
possible because I want as many of our chapter Presidents and leders in
general, to attend as much of the Back To Basics seminar as they can.
You might want to try and grab a bite before our meeting.

3 Bring your banquet tickets to the Caucus and give them to Crystal McClain
with your name signed on the back if possible if yu want to sit with the
rest of us. Whether you sit with us or not you will have to exchange the
ticket you purchased for one that will get you a seat at some table.

Please help our new people with all of this.

4 Richard and Cindy will be publishing instructions about selling candy and
turning in money. Please sell it enthusiastically and as quickly as possible
because if we run out we can always get more.

5 If you have Jernigan ticket stubbs and you want me to turn them in with
the rest that I have get them to me.
Just make sure you are in the drawing and make sure that Sherry has your
checks made out to the NFB Of Ohio with raffle tikets in the memo line.

6 I am very serious about general session attendance this year especially if
you are receiving financial assistance from us. I want our delegation area
to be as full as possible as often as possible!Remember that it is sometimes
very cold in the Ballroom so dress appropriately. Also, please be aware that
not only should we dress appropriately for the sessions, but we should act
appropriately too. Cameras are always on and not everyone is totally blind
not to say that this should be an excuse for unacceptable behavior, but I
hope you understand what I mean. For one example, we all get a bit tired
sometimes and we might nod off briefly or yawn from time to time, but it has
been my experience that some people literally camp out in the delegations
and it can be quite embarrassing so let's not shine that kind of spotlight
on Ohio ok?

7 Finally I think for now, be very aware of who is around you and take care
especially when leaving the hotels. I am not knocking Detroit, but I lived
their for 3 years and it is imperative that you keep your wits about you at
all times. This property has great security but they can't be everywhere all
the time so be responsible and alert.

We are going to have a great delegation this year and a wonderful Convention
so get excited.

This is the instructions for selling candy at convention:

You will be given 24 packages of candy to sell - 12 peanut, 12 plain
M&M.
You are encouraged to turn in the money when you take the candy, but
if you can't you may bring the money to JW, Richard Payne, or Cindy
Conley.
When you bring the money back, if you wish to sell 24 more, you will
be given it at that time.
Do not take your extra candy to the Ohio table and ask someone to sell
it for you. You will be responsible for the money in the amount of
candy you have taken. If you feel you will not be able to sell all
your candy, please bring it to Richard or Cindy and we will give it to
someone else to sell.
There will be a prize for the person who sells the most candy.
