Subject: Special Request for Help
Colleagues:
I am writing to request your assistance in contributing to an article honoring and recognizing Barbara Pierce's twenty plus year tenure as editor of our magazine that I will prepare for inclusion in the January 2010 edition of the Braille Monitor. While I have not worked out the precise structure for this piece, I am hoping to include in this article reflections from several of her friends and colleagues in our organization that offer memories of her work, share interesting anecdotes about her service, or simply say something about Barbara that seems appropriate during this transition. The January edition of the magazine will also run a retrospective on the Monitor's history from Barbara's perspective, but I want to print something that shows how valued and loved Barbara is among people in our movement for her years of service as editor of the Braille Monitor in particular and as a longtime leader in the NFB in general.
I cannot guarantee that I will be able to incorporate all of the comments that I will receive, but I will do my best to present a representative sample of the feedback offered. I will be grateful for your help in recognizing Barbara's lifetime of work in shaping the Braille Monitor. Her work is truly worthy of recognition as she transitions out of this position.
Please send your feedback in a Word document attached to a reply email to this message. If you initiate a new message, please make it clear in the subject line that it is in relation to this project so that I don't overlook your submission. In order to have time to write and edit this piece, I would appreciate your submissions by no later than 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2009. I have addressed this message to leaders in our organization most likely to have direct knowledge and familiarity with Barbara and her work, but you may feel free to share this solicitation with people that you feel might have something useful to contribute to this effort. It will be too difficult to keep this work a total surprise from Barbara, but she won't see your contributions until I finish shaping the piece. I tell you this so that you know that it is okay to share this request for feedback openly. Barbara will know that this is happening, but she won't see the work until I finish fashioning the article.
I look forward to hearing from many of you. Thank you in advance for your support of this effort. Should you have questions, please feel free to be in touch. My contact details may be found below in my signature block.
With Kind Regards,
