Hello JW,
I would be interested in being on the ada committee
I think it is very important that all people have the right and the means to
vote
I have voted on the new machines for people with disabilities four times now
since I have blind
I have always voted it is my God given right
And every time I went to bote since I have blind there was always a problem
the workers
Did not no how to work the machines and o I would have to wait a very long
time for the worker to call several people to get the machine set up right
They often asked me if I wanted them to read the ballet to me and I told
them no or if they wanted a family member to read it to me I told them no
I wanted my privacy and independence I would wait until they got someone
there to help with the machine
And it was always a very easy thing to get the machine ready there are just
certain steps
The worker has to do to get the machine ready
They had plenty of voting machines there but only one equipped with the
handicap feature
Let me no if I can be considered for this committee
Thanks
Dawn from Toledo

Committee

Dear Potential ADA Advisory Committee Member,

The Ohio Secretary of State's Office is searching for people with
disabilities, advocates, disability organizations and other interested
parties to serve on an ADA Advisory Committee. This is your chance to
provide guidance to the Secretary of State's Office on issues pertaining to
people with disabilities and assuring the voting process is accessible for
everyone.

The ADA Advisory Committee will be responsible for reviewing grant requests
submitted by county Boards of Elections to increase access for voters with
disabilities. Along with that we are looking for members willing to assist
with helping various counties assess their polling locations for
accessibility. The committee will provide guidance to establish and
implement a curriculum for training election officials and poll workers on
how best to interact with voters with disabilities. In addition, committee
members will provide recommendations and guidance on disability related
issues pertaining to the voting process to the Secretary of State's Office
and the ADA Coordinator. For your convenience a copy of the ADA Advisory
Committee summary is enclosed to help you further understand the role of a
committee member.

We are looking for individuals who want to make a difference in assuring
that all people, including people with disabilities have the opportunity to
vote. If you or your organization has someone who would like to participate
on the ADA Advisory Committee for a one-year term please submit a letter of
interest and a short resume by November 6, 2009 to:

 >>> "Pare, John" <JPare at nfb.org> 10/1/2009 3:37 PM >>>

Fellow Federationists:

The dates for Washington Seminar are:

Monday, February 1 through Thursday, February 4, 2010

Great Gathering-In--Monday, February 1, 2010, 5 PM

Congressional Appointments--February 2 through February 4, 2010

The following message comes from Diane McGeorge who
organizes much of the logistics of Washington Seminar.

* * *

Please make your hotel reservations as soon as
possible. We need to have reservations no later than December 30,
2009. Please do not contact the hotel to make your reservations. I
submit all the reservations for the Washington Seminar. You may call
(303) 778-1130, extension 219, to make your reservation, or you may
e-mail your reservations to Lisa Bonder son at
<mailto:lbonderson at cocenter.org>lbonderson at cocenter.org. We will
confirm receipt of your reservation either by return e-mail or by
telephone, so be sure to give us your telephone number and your
e-mail address.

The following is the information that I need to have to
assure you of a room at the Holiday Inn Capitol.

1. Your date of arrival and departure.

2. First and last names of any roommates that might be sharing
with you. If you make the reservation by phone, please spell first
and last names of each person sharing the room. Please include
arrival and departure date for each person.

3. Please specify if you wish to have:

             A smoking or non-smoking room

             An accessible room

Two beds, one queen bed, or one king bed

A rollaway bed (there will be a $10 charge per night)

4. If Divisions (i.e., Students, Parents, Merchants, Lawyers,
etc.) wish to have space for a meeting, I must have your requirements
for meeting space no later than December 1, 2009. We want to be able
to accommodate everyone, and in order to do so we must have plenty of
advance notice to work with the hotel.

Per the hotel contract, individual cancellation must be
made at least seventy-two hours prior to the date of arrival to avoid
one-night's-room-plus-tax cancellation charge. You must get in touch
with Lisa Bonder son or me to make changes to your reservation as
soon as possible to avoid such a charge.

The rates are $154 for single, double, triple, or quad
rooms, and the tax is 14.5 percent per night. When you check in you
must be prepared to cover at least the first night of your stay with
either a credit card or check, and then arrange to pay the balance by
presenting a credit card or a check for the remainder of the cost.

Please remember, the deadline is December 30,
2009. There will be a number of special meetings during the seminar
and you will want to watch the NFB Web site for special
announcements. The Great Gathering-In meeting will be held on
Monday, February 1, 2009. You certainly don't want to miss that.

I hope this answers all of your questions. I look
forward to seeing all of you in D.C. in February.

Diane McGeorge

Subject: Buckeye Update for October 1st 2009

I do love fall, but I must tell you it is cold here today. I don't have a
lot to report this time, but I do want to remind you of a few things.

Reminders -

Don't forget to make your reservations for our State Convention to be held
from October 30th-November 1st at the Ramada Plaza Hotel located at 4900
Sinclair in Columbus. The phone number for reservations and other
information is 614-846-0300. Remember that they will hold our block of rooms
and our rate of $72.00 per night until October 8th. They will honor your
reservations if they have rooms available after the 8th but I encourage you
to get your reservations in on time.

Don't forget to bring door prizes for the Convention and to give them to
Paul Dressell and remember that money is always a great prize. The board
meeting will be held at 9:00 on Friday October 30th and there will be a
leadership breakfast on Sunday morning for Chapter and Board leaders.

I still need reports from Chapter Presidents and you should let our
secretary, Deborah Kendrick, know who will represent your Chapter on the
nominating committee. Just to reiterate Chapters will be penalized if your
reports are not received one week before the Convention , remember?

Finally, get those pre-registration forms in as soon as possible so that we
can have a good idea of specific numbers for particular events and meals.

Board Meeting -

We had an informative and productive board meeting on September 19th. Those
of you who receive this information by email should have the minutes by now
and they are enclosed in the envelopes of those of you who receive this
update by regular mail.

Chapter Development Activities --

I had a wonderful time on September 26th when I visited the Cuyahoga County
Chapter Meeting. The food and fellowship were wonderful and it was good to
meet more of our members especially those that don't tend to come to a lot
of events outside of their local areas. I am pleased to tell you that on
October 24th we will be attempting to organize a Chapter in Springfield and
I am particularly grateful for the hard work that Debbie Baker and Susan Day
have put into this effort. I also need to tell you that in conjunction with
meet the blind month, Susan Day has organized a wonderful event which will
take place on October 10th from 11-3 at COSI in Columbus, I'm sure she would
appreciate any assistance she could get to help make this event as
successful as possible so please don't hesitate to contact her and volunteer

I don't know about you but I am getting excited about our upcoming
Convention especially our theme of "The nature of Independence" in
preparation for the convention please try to familiarize yourself with this
1993 speech delivered by Dr. Jernigan. There will be copies of the speech at
the Convention but if you come prepared we can have an even more successful
convention investigating and discussing the issue of independence as it
relates to our cause and purpose.

On October 10th we are having a meet the blind month activity at CoSi in
Columbus, Ohio. It will be 11-3. I need to have some help for this event. It
will be a good opportunity to meet the public. There will be a table with
information and a video running that needs to be manned, and a table of
braille games and activities that needs to be manned. I also need braille
games to have on the table. I hope you can help me with this project. Please
reply or call me at 937-252-7151. Susan Day
