[Ohio-talk] Interview with Kathy McGillivray

Hi JW, and all,

It appears that Mr. Leibs uses HTML e-mail, and might think everyone else
does too. Unfortunately, this is a common mistake in e-mail. Many online
marketers and supposed marketing 'experts' make this mistake again and
again. I'm constantly trying to get them to see the "inside-the-box"
thinking many are still using.

As with so many others, it is with Mr. Leibs' message also. Nowhere in his
message is there an actual link, a URL to click on to go and read his story.

And the other probem with tracking him down is that his "from" e-mail is
setup the same way. Without showing his actual e-mail. Otherwise I'd have
copied him on this to let him know directly of the marketing mistakes made
while getting the word out about his interview.

His third mistake is that he signs off in his signature by simply saying,
"Suite101.com" and not even showing which section of that site he manages.
If I remember correctly it's something to do with visual impairment. And
sports or writing or something. But the Suite101.com domain is not his
domain. He is in a subsection of it. he really should be giving a direct
link to that subsection as I think he has in the past. He'd get more
visitors, more often.

I do not use HTML e-mail. And I am far from the only one who chooses not to
use HTML e-mail. But in my e-mails, at least in this Outlook Express
program, even though I am not using HTML e-mail or accepting them into my
inbox as such, links with an actual URL are still clickable.

On my end Mr. Leibs' e-mail is nothing but text. His "from" address is
merely his name in text, on my end. His link, or what I assume is a link to
the interview, is nothing but unclickable text as well. By simply including
an actual URL to click on ("http...") it makes a lot of difference, and
increases the click-through ratio for people caring about such things. ;-)

I'd like to read his interview. But I'm not searching the man out for it.
I will take this time instead to try to help more than just him, by sharing
these points of marketing with e-mail, on this public list.

I bet it's a good interview, though. Kathy is on the NFB Sports & Rec
list -- and usually has great input there.

If anyone has Mr. Leibs' contact information, could you please forward this
message to him -- to try to help him hopefully market his offerings a little
better next time? Thanks.

Strive On,
Everett

Hello--

I recently interviewed Kathy McGillivray, Director of Disability Services at
Bethel University (St. Paul, Minn.) and veteran of many NFB conventions. For
10 years, Kathy has helped disabled students transition to life in college
and I liked her attitude about the need to develop problem-solving
abilities.

Please read and forward.

Thank you!
