Through her foundation, Paralympic gold medalist April Holmes is offering students with disabilities a $1,000 scholarship.    

Today the April Holmes Foundation, Inc. announced a new program to provide scholarships to college students with a physical disability to help defray the cost of their education.

Through this new scholarship program, students are eligible to receive $1,000 in funding to put towards their education and related needs.

Applications are available online at
http://www.aprilhol mes.com/ and the deadline to apply is May 15, 2010.

"I consider it a dream come true to be able to help others with a disability to attend college," said April Holmes, founder, April Holmes Foundation. "They have enough things to worry about when it comes to mobility, environmental changes and new friends, so if my foundation can ease their concern over money, than I am pleased to have used my athletic platform for the betterment of others." 

To be eligible, all applicants must have a Paralympic-eligible physical disability (i.e. amputee, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury or cerebral palsy). The completed application and required materials must be postmarked by the May 15th deadline. 

Five students will be awarded scholarships of $1,000 for the 2010-11 academic year, with $500 going towards fall '10 semester and $500 towards the spring '11 semester. Scholarship award recipients will be notified and announced by May 28, 2010.
