Subject: BUCKEYE UPDATE FOR MAY 25TH, 2010
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood in Athens and it seems that summer is fast approaching!! We will have graduation down here on June 11th and 12th and then I will get 6 weeks of rest and relaxation!! SWEET!!!
Zanesville Here We Come
We will be having a meeting in Zanesville on June 12th in an effort to revitalize that Chapter. The Chairman of our membership committee Richard Payne tells me that the planning for that meeting is progressing nicely and it is our hope that we will be able to find interested participants and reinvigorate current members. This effort is essential to our goal this year of revitalizing chapters and finding ways to encourage current chapter members to continue their efforts and support of our organization. The meeting will be held at the Muskingum Library and all are welcome.
Good News about the Website
Eric Duffy tells me that our new and improved website should be up and running by June 1st or shortly thereafter. As you all know it has been a long and sometimes frustrating process to get us to this point but I want to thank Barbara Pierce, Sylvia Cooley, and Eric Duffy for staying with this and it is my understanding that when we go live you should be pleased with the results. Please understand that this will be an ongoing process and of course we will need appropriate materials for the website. It is my hope that the launching of this website will enable us to be a more efficient and productive organization in every aspect. So next week go to WWW.NFBOHIO.ORG and give us your feedback and constructive comments when appropriate. It is my hope that this will also allow us to conduct and initiate some effective fundraising activities ultimately.
A Successful Fundraiser
I am so pleased to tell you that my May 23rd fundraising concert was a great success! We raised over $1,300 dollars at the event itself, and although I do not have the final numbers yet I know that we had raised several hundred dollars before Sunday as well. I was very pleased to see some of our members in attendance (Carol Akers & Stephanie Claytor & Richard Payne) additionally, Donny Boggs was well received by the audience and his performance was fantastic. This was my second such event and it is my plan to make it even bigger and better each year. I want to make both the music and the audience participation as diverse as possible. Additionally, I would love to replicate this event in other parts of the state, so let's talk about this sometime. I hope even more of our members will be able to attend next year because not only is it a an excellent fundraising event it's also a great way to spread our message and to provide information for those interested in the NFB of Ohio, for example, I had two people who expressed interest in joining our organization and several individuals took our brochures and other information with them.
Some Convention Reminders
1. I hope that if you are attending the convention you have pre-registered and purchased your banquet tickets so you can save five dollars on both.
2. Chapter presidents need to send me your ticket stubs for the Jernigan raffle if you want me to turn them in for you and you can also send me your checks made out to the NFB of Ohio. To cover the cost of those raffle tickets or you can send the checks to Sherry as well.
3. You should make checks out to the NFB of Ohio if you want to be included in any of our contributions this year. (SUN, Jernigan fund, or White Cane, and Door Prizes) Once again you can send these checks to me or Sherry if you want to be included with our contributions at the convention.
4. Remember that the only exception to this is any checks for the TenBroek Fund should be made out directly to that fund
5. Even though I don't have the room yet, our affiliate caucus will be from 5:30-6:30 on Sunday July 4th so spread the word.
6. Finally, please raise your money for the March for Independence campaign and consider joining the PAC plan, as Paul Dressell said, "Let's Move out of that 13th Place as soon as we can!"
